About Us
The Southwest Ohio Critical Incident Stress Management Team was developed in 1987 to provide (free) peer support services to those in the Emergency Services profession. We are the original Emergency Responder Peer Support Team to serve Southwest Ohio. Founded by first responders to help first responders!
The SWOCISM Team follows the International Critical Institute Stress Foundation's (ICISF) models for Defusings, Debriefings, and One-on-One care following a critical incident to any public safety department, critical care services, or anyone
individual who request our assistance. All team members are certified through ICISF and must maintain additional training requirements throughout the year.
Our service is focused on YOU to mitigate the harmful effects of on the job stresses- particularly in a crisis, or emergency situations, therefore allowing you to successfully return to work doing what you do best. As such, our highest priority is given to you or your department - utilizing such measures as; on scene support, defusings, debriefings, & individual care.
We believe in and practice evidence-based techniques developed and approved by the industry leaders for emergency service workers that help you put the all the pieces together during and after a stress filled event(s).
Our years of experience has shown that the "answers" to get through such an event(s) is within each person/group - we simply help guide you through the process.
This team maintains the highest standard of confidentiality and respect to those we serve.
We as a Peer Support Team have been granted testimonial immunity through the Ohio Revised Code.
Please note - it is not the function of the Team to replace on-going professional counseling, but to provide education and immediate crisis intervention. Through the CISM Team educational process, the TEAM provides an important tool to alleviate stress-related symptoms.
