Membership Criteria
1. The following criteria are considered in screening new applications for membership in a CISM Team.
Completed application form
Signed Memo of Understanding
Professional service experience and background 3-5 years experience
Experience as a mental health professional
Training in areas of stress/psychology
Evaluation of reasons for wanting to be on the team
Accessibility for interventions and team activities
Respect and trust of peers
Ability to keep confidences
Ability to express self
Maturity
Sensitivity to others
Ability to work within an established framework
Self identified assets/deficits
Type of professional service represented
Geographic location of candidate
2. Training Requirements - ICISF approved training:
1. Individual Crisis Intervention and Peer Support
2. Group Crisis Intervention
3. Advanced Group Crisis Intervention
4. School Crisis Intervention A CISM Approach
5. Additional suggested courses:
a. Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Post Vention
b. Pastoral Crisis Intervention
c. Healthcare CISM
d. Line of Duty Death
e. Psychological Response to Disaster and Terrorism
f. Psychotraumatology
3. Mental health professionals should have at least an MA in psychology, social work, or a related field, or a MS in Nursing with psychiatric specialty, and employed in one of the following areas:
a. Social Services
b. Psychology
c. Psychiatric nursing
d. Counseling
e. Psychiatry

4. Mental health professionals should have specific training and experience in the following:
1. Crisis intervention
2. Stress response and stress management
3. Group process
4. Directive intervention
5. Communications skills
6. Post traumatic stress disorder
7. Cross training in with appropriate special groups or be willing to obtain this experience
5. Evaluation of renewal applications include the criteria listed and:
1. Outcome of Peer Review Board procedures
2. Past accessibility for interventions and education presentations
3. Attendance at team meetings
